TELEPHONE CONNECTION AND COMPATIBILITY (DUET EXECUTIVE)

I connected the Duet to my telephone's handset jack and I am not getting any sound, incoming nor outgoing.

The Duet Executive is designed to work through a telephone's headset jack (replacing the headset with hands-free communication) and not through the handset connection.

The Duet comes with a RJ11 -> 2.5mm cable that should be used with telephones that are equipped with a 2.5mm headset jack (mostly analog, wireless, and cell phones). The Duet also comes with two RJ11 -> RJ11 cables that should be used with telephones that are equipped with a RJ11 headset jack (mostly enterprise and SIP phones).

If your telephone does not have a headset jack you can purchase a Handset / Headset switchbox. This is a device that connects to your telephone's handset jack and converts it to a headset jack. This converter is available at Radio Shack (CAT# 43-2017); a similar converter (Multi44 from RJ-headsets) is offered by Phoenix to its customers.

When I use the Duet with my telephone, the microphone does not seem to be sensitive enough.  While talking to others I can hear the caller very well, but the caller does not hear us adequately.

In the older Duet Executive models the signal levels of the Duet's telephone connection were designed for an “average” telephone. This was based on dozens of telephone models that we’ve tried during the development phase of the Duet. Unfortunately, the sensitivity of some telephones is such that the Duet's output is too low. Unlike the computer connection (USB) there is no way to control the output level for the telephone.

An alternative solution is to purchase a Handset / Headset switchbox and connect the Duet to the telephone handset jack through this switchbox as described in the previous question. These converters typically provide a couple of sensitivity settings, one of which may work well with your telephone.

In the newer Duet Executive models, this problem was solved by providing the user with the option of controlling the level of output from the Duet to the telephone. Two switches located in the back panel of the Duet give the user four different volume settings. use the highest setting that does not cause an echo while using the device. For more information on how to adjust the telephone output settings of your Duet please refer to the user manual provided for this product.

Can I connect the Duet to a Polycom boardroom speakerphone and utilize it as a satellite microphone?

In order for the echo canceller to work properly the unit (Duet or Solo) has to receive the signal that feeds the loudspeakers. This signal is not available in a standard boardroom speakerphone. However, if you want to use the Duet only as a microphone, you can use the output from the RJ11 jack in the back of the Duet. You should also shut-down the Duet’s speaker by plugging in a headset or headphones.

Why aren't I getting any audio when connecting the Duet Executive to the headset jack of my enterprise phone?

The Duet comes with two RJ11 -> RJ11 cables, a black one and a grey one. Some telephones will work with the black one yet some with the grey one. If you did not receive the grey cable with you Duet please call our tech support and we’ll ship one to you.

What telephone network is the Duet compatible with?
The Duet connects to the telephone's headset not to the telephone network, therefore it is not required to comply with any network standards, and should work with all networks.
